Will Smith to Produce ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ Reboot

According to TV Line, Will Smith is preparing an official reboot of the 90’s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air with a modern-day story and cast. Apparently, Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, is in the very early stages of the reboot that puts a new spin on the original while still maintaining the spirit of the series. A pitch is allegedly being finalized now and will be shopped around in the coming weeks.

Smith will serve as Executive Producer alongside his Overbook partners Jada Pinkett-Smith, Caleeb Pinkett, and James Lassiter. The original, which also jump started Smith’s rap career, ran from 1990 until 1996 on NBC. We’re not sure how much the two series will overlap in terms of content but, if it’s backed by its original lead, we can only expect solid work.

Following the rumors, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt denied involvement with the project, but said that he would “be happy to talk to Will [Smith] about it.” Keep your fingers crossed.
